Levon Kirkland is a former football star from Clemson University and the National Football League. He currently serves as the Vice President of Development for the South Carolina football Hall of Fame (SCFHOF) and is the leader of the #SCTop10N2030 movement.
Mr. Kirkland played linebacker at Clemson University between 1988-1991, and after three All-ACC seasons and a consensus All-American nod in 1991 he was drafted in the second round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1992. The 38th overall pick was named to the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team after 11 successful seasons in the league. The Lamar, SC native was inducted into the Clemson University Hall of Fame in 2001, the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008, the South Carolina football Hall of Fame in 2017, and the Clemson Ring of Honor in 2019. He is currently a nominee for the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2023.
Mr. Kirkland spent the years after retiring from playing football, positively impacting the lives of students and football players as a high school, college, and NFL coach. He also secured his sociology degree, which he used at Clemson University as a minority recruiting coordinator in the admissions office. He anticipates earning his Master of Science in Psychology in the first quarter of 2023 from Grand Canyon University. His diverse background and experience along with his love for South Carolina and its youth gives him a great platform to impact the community.
Mr. Kirkland is both a student and master of the game of football - from a coach’s and player’s perspective. His football career is one of undisputable quality, depth, and sophistication. Even a cursory review of Mr. Kirkland’s credentials evidence that he has deep experience in, and understanding of, how to coach and play the game. In addition, he has experience in the administration of a football program and team management, as well as a depth of knowledge in the business of the game. He has demonstrated versatility and effectiveness as a coach, having coached at the professional, collegiate, and prep levels. His command of the fundamentals and sophisticated nuances of the game make him a thought leader and effective at coaching and teaching seasoned professionals, and novices alike.
This experience lends Mr. Kirkland a passion to give back to the next generation by educating, empowering, and encouraging youth to be their best. All this is to support them in academic, character, and career development. This passion provides a great foundation and mission for his current role with the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame (SCFHOF).
