Larry A. Smith, retired plant manager for Schneider Electric in Seneca, was appointed to the Commission in October 2019 to represent Oconee County. He served as plant manager of Schneider Electric for 26 years. He also served as president of the Oconee County Industrial Group and has been an active member on Tri-County advisory committees and served on Tri-County’s Foundation Board for seven years.
Smith says the 26 years he served as plant manager of Schneider Electric, as well as the eight years he was president of the Oconee County Industrial Group, kept him aware of the educational and workforce initiatives developed and implemented by the College. He says he is aware of the importance of building a strong workforce and believes Tri-County Technical College plays a major role.
Smith holds B.S. and MBA degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to being former president of the Oconee County Industrial Group, he is a member of the Foothills Area YMCA and is a former member of SDOC Business Education Partnership and the Clemson University Continuing Education Board. Currently, he also competes in the US Tennis Association League.
He and his wife, Judy, live in Seneca. They have four adult children and 10 grandchildren.
