Sheriffs Candidates’ Debates to Be Held at Tri-County CampusesRead More
This QuickJobs program is a WIA-eligible training program.
This 40-hour program provides the behind-the-wheel training to individuals who are already a licensed driver but who have been out of the trucking industry for a while and in order for companies to hire them they are being asked to show they have had a refresher course.
The course involves providing a licensed driver the opportunity to "refresh" their driving skills in a safe environment under the direction of a certified instructor. A short assessment of the student's driving skills is provided in order to determine which skills they really need to work on. A plan is created that will allow them to develop those skills during the 40-hour training. Some students need practice backing, alley docking, or just over the road driving skills, it is all individual.
The 40-hours of training is offered in 2 formats. We offer a group class and a one-on-one format. The group format consists of placing the refresher student in a truck with students who are taking the CDL program - this provides you the opportunity not only to drive and practice your skills but to observe others driving as well. It also cuts cost for TCTC and for you. The one-on-one format provides a one-on-one arrangement with the instructor and student which allows for more drive time but little observation time. Either works for companies they just want to know that the individual has completed 40 hours of additional training under the direction of a certified CDL instructor.
- Vehicle Control
- Pre-trip Inspection
Entry Requirements/What to Expect
The 40-hour refresher program is scheduled on an as needed basis and typically can be scheduled at the student's convenience - with the group we do have to wait until there is a class out in the truck and on the road and that has a seat available. Typically this takes no more than a week or so since we start a new CDL course every 2 weeks.
Since you are placed in a truck with students who are training to become truck drivers the registration for this program is completed individually and there is no on-line registration available.
In order to register for the 40-Hour Refresher program you will need to contact Corporate & Community Education at 864-646-1700 to arrange a time for you to begin this program.
