CompTIA A+ Certification Course Description:
In this instructor-led program, you'll gain the needed knowledge of basic computer hardware and operating systems. You'll cover the essential principles of installing, building, upgrading, repairing, configuring, troubleshooting, optimizing, diagnosing, and preventive maintenance, and you'll learn elements of customer service and communication skills necessary to work with clients. Class will prepare students for the CompTIA® A+® Certification exams. Cost includes textbooks/toolkit.

CompTIA A+ Certification
Upon completion, a student will also have the necessary skills to take the CompTIA A+ Certification Exam. The CompTIA A+ Certification is the industry standard for computer support technicians. It tests for the fundamentals of computer technology, networking and security, as well as the communications skills and professionalism now required of all entry-level IT professionals. Testing is administered by Pearson Vue. Testing contact information is listed below. Students will register and pay for exam vouchers directly to Pearson Vue.

Course Outline - 50 hrs:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the components of standard desktop personal computers.
  • Identify fundamental components and functions of personal computer operating systems.
  • Identify best practices followed by professional personal computer technicians.
  • Install and configure computer components.
  • Install and configure system components.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot peripheral components.
  • Troubleshoot system components.
  • Install and configure operating systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot installations of Microsoft Windows.
  • Identify network technologies.
  • Install and manage network connections.
  • Support laptops and portable computing devices.
  • Support printers.
  • Identify personal computer security concepts.
  • Support personal computer security.

Entry Requirements/What to Expect
Prerequisites - Students taking this course should have the following skills: end-user skills with Windows®-based personal computers, including the ability to: browse and search for information on the Internet; start up, shut down, and log on to a computer and network; run programs; and move, copy, delete, and rename files in Windows Explorer. Students should also have basic knowledge of computing concepts, including the difference between hardware and software; the functions of software components, such as the operating system, applications, and file systems; and the function of a computer network. An introductory course in a Windows operating system, or equivalent skills and knowledge, is required.

Note:  Individuals who are not working in the IT field or have experience in the IT field will be required to participate in an internship.

You will be able to work with the major networking technologies and systems in use in PC-based computer networks as you also prepare for the CompTIA Network+ certification exam. With the CompTIA Network+ Certification, you'll be knowledgeable regarding the features and functions of networking components and possess the knowledge and skills needed to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services.

Prerequisites: To ensure your success, you will need basic Windows end-user computer skills. In addition, we highly recommend that you hold the CompTIA A+ certification, or have equivalent skills and knowledge.
