You don't have to be a "certified" teacher to serve as an adjunct instructor! The qualifications to teach as an adjunct vary, depending on the course:
- Minimum requirements for industrial and technical courses are an associate degree in the field and three years of related work experience.
- For most business, computer, and public/human services courses, minimum requirements are a bachelor's degree in the field and three years of related work experience.
- For courses in University Transfer, and some business courses, you must have a Master's Degree (in any field from an accredited institution) with at least 18 graduate hours in the subject you're teaching.
- Most health education courses require special certification or licensure, in addition to experience and higher education degrees in the field.
And, it's important to understand that for many courses, our department heads can request specific skills, experience, or advanced degrees beyond the minimum, based on program accreditation guidelines.
